Meet Esther

Esther Kamaliza, Founder and President

As a child, I fled the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Years later, as a teenager, I was resettled as a refugee in Grand Rapids, Michigan, through Bethany Christian Services. During this time, my faith became an anchor. The values my parents instilled in me—prayer, fasting, and living simply—shaped how I understood both hardship and hope.

After graduating from high school in 2014, I began working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Early in my career, I prayed and told God, I will help kids in Africa with their education.”

That desire grew stronger when I learned that, during the conflict, my youngest sister had fled to Uganda. I also knew that many children there faced significant barriers to accessing quality schooling.

With that conviction, I committed a portion of my income to support vulnerable children in Uganda. I believed—deeply—that education could open doors to brighter futures. I began by helping ten children who were unable to attend school. Soon, that number grew to twenty-five. Many of these children came from extremely difficult circumstances, some with only one parent and others with none at all. For two and a half years, I consistently sent $1,000 every three months to ensure they could continue their education.

As donations increased, so did our impact. The number of students we supported rose from twenty-five to more than three hundred. Later that year, I traveled to Uganda to witness firsthand the work God was doing.

In 2019, I prayed for a permanent location for EHFC in Uganda. That prayer was answered in 2020 when we began construction on our first school building.
